Michael Patlas, professor and chair of the department of medical imaging in U of T's Temerty Faculty of Medicine, has been recognized with the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) Gold Medal Award.
The Gold Medal Award, CAR's highest honour, is presented to longtime members of the association who have made outstanding contributions to the association and the profession of radiology in Canada.
An internationally respected radiologist and researcher, Patlas has published over 235 peer-reviewed papers, editorials and book chapters. One of his papers, The Clinical Importance of Visceral Adiposity: a Critical Review of Methods for Visceral Adipose Tissue Analysis, has been cited over 1,090 times.
“I am honoured and humbled to receive the Gold Medal Award from the Canadian Association of Radiologists," Patlas told the CAR. "I have been fortunate to collaborate with the CAR for over two decades and held multiple leadership positions including abstract chair, program chair, and editor-in-chief of the CARJ [Canadian Association of Radiologists Journal].
"It was an exciting journey which allowed me to meet many radiologists across the country who became lifelong friends and mentor numerous trainees. I encourage younger colleagues to volunteer for the CAR.”
