U of T's Project Leap recognized with Climate Luminary Honor

The University of Toronto has been recognized with a Climate Luminary Honor by Second Nature, a non-profit headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., that is dedicated to accelerating climate action through higher education and research.

Climate Luminary Honors celebrate member institutions of Second Nature's Climate Leadership Network for their innovative approaches to tackling climate challenges across five categories: decarbonization, justice, community, workforce and research.

U of T was recognized in the research category for Project Leap, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the St. George campus by over 50 per cent by the end of 2027 and make the campus climate-positive by 2050. The project was honoured for its novel approach in combining research, action and engagement to drive measurable climate progress.

Kristy Faccer, secretariat director of the President's Advisory Committee on the Environment, Climate Change and Sustainability (CECCS) and Kaitlyn Myles, project manager in the Sustainability Office at the St. George campus, accepted the award on behalf of U of T at the 2025 Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.
