Faculty of Law alumni recognized with Walter Owen Book Prize

Faculty of Law alumni Matthew Gourlay, Justice Brock Jones and Justice Renee M. Pomerance have been awarded the 2023 Walter Owen Book Prize.

Administered by the Foundation for Legal Research, the prize recognizes excellence in legal writing and outstanding contributions to Canadian law.

Gourlay, a 2008 graduate of the Juris Doctor program and partner at Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP; Jones, a 2004 graduate of the Juris Doctor program and judge at the Ontario Court of Justice; and Pomerance, a 1987 graduate of the bachelor of laws program and judge at the Ontario Court of Appeal, were recognized for their co-authored treatise Modern Criminal Evidence, a practical and comprehensive guide to criminal evidence law in Canada.

The prize jury also shortlisted A History of Law in Canada: Volume II: Law for the New Dominion, 1867-1914, co-authored by the Faculty of Law's Professor Jim Phillips.
