Nursing professor Doris Howell receives lifetime achievement award for exceptional professional work
Doris Howell, an adjunct professor at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, has received the 2020 Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology (CAPO) Lifetime Achievement Award – which recognizes exceptional professional contributions to psychosocial oncology.
Howell has an extensive clinical background in cancer care. Her research focuses on optimizing the quality of cancer care and empowering patients. As an instructor, Howell developed the oncology curriculum for the clinical nursing stream in the Bloomberg Faculty’s nursing master’s program. Howell is cross-appointed to U of T’s Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation in the Faculty of Medicine and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
She held the RBC Chair, Oncology Nursing Research and Education at the University Health Network until 2019.
Howell’s award-winning research in psychosocial oncology and cancer care has transformed Canadian practices through the implementation of evidence-based recommendations for pain management.
